How to “Black Friday”

I have a small confession, my husband and I may or may not be Black Friday professionals.

Every year we save up just for Black Friday.

Are the sales really all that worth it? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing for sure the prices are low, everything goes on sale and I like it!

We don’t have matching tees and a whole crew but we do have a plan and we don’t mess around.

If you’ve gone Black Friday shopping before or are planning on going this year I’m sharing some tips to make you successful this year.

  • Make a LIST! This is the key to getting what you want. There’s no time for leisure shopping when those doors open. Look for the ads for the stores you know you want to shop at now. Yep, most of the stores that you want to shop at (read Target) have “leaked” ads that you can check out and start making that list.
  • Get there early. I never really thought this was that important until I was that person standing in line 2 hours before the store opened. My only disclaimer is that when we did this last year I was not shopping for a big ticket item so I can’t necessarily speak from that experience. However, there was a store rep that came through the line and asked if anyone needed a particular phone, and we were some of the FIRST few people in the store so if we wanted one of those things I’m sure we would’ve been fine. Like said we got there about 2 hours before the store opened and we knew EXACTLY what we wanted, y’all we were literally in and out in about 15-20 mins, no line. I will also add that we live in a fairly congested area and our Target is the only one within about 5-10 miles so I was surprised that there was virtually no line. Getting there early and standing in line outside of the store makes a world of difference!
  • Split up! Another thing that made our run last year so successful is dividing and conquering. We went with my brother and sister in law and every person went to a different section of the store. I was the token throw blanket girl. If you have more than one person it really helps to knock out that list and get to the line before it gets wrapped around the store.
  • Leave the kids at home. Leaving the kids with grandma is definitely the move for Black Friday. This is REAL. DEAL. SHOPPING. people and it’s a SPRINT, not a jog. We ain’t got time to spend an hour in the toy aisle and stop every 5 seconds because our little precious spotted something else with Mickey Mouse on it. Plus it’s a pretty exhilarating date night, and if you just so happen to get stuck in a line that wraps around Kohl’s at midnight, we’ll that ain’t so bad either.
  • Have fun! Even though it’s really not that serious and most people aren’t gonna fight you for the last set of Tupperware, grab, snatch, and run a little bit. It’s fun to know that you got one of the firsts of an item or even one of the lasts.
