My family just returned from a magical week at Disney World! It was fun, memorable, and exhausting. We definitely spent a pretty penny for all that magic. But, we did NOT break the bank. How? Here are my 4 tips for doing Disney on a budget: Don’t Stay on Disney Property. I know. I just […]

A Family-Friendly Free Ride in Atlanta I have many goals in life, contrary to what my children think. Among them: to be on the Ellen show during the Christmas season, to once again fit into my prom dress from Senior year, and to finally learn who let the dogs out (who, who, who, who?). Obviously, […]
Mornings. You either love them or you loathe them. I am the latter. Let me paint a very real picture for you. I am one of those that hits snooze at least 3 times (my husband loves this about me). And if for some ungodly reason we have no coffee or creamer in this house, […]
Nothing says I love you like fondue except, maybe, fondue times two! Why decide between a velvety Velveeta-free pot of cheese bathing in wine and a crock of rich dark chocolate decadence when you can have both? And both are equally adored by little, big, male, & female taste buds alike.
Fondue for Valentine’s Day is probably as cliche as the girls-only fondue dinner tradition that started one February 14th back in college. Admittedly, I was a little mournful for the passing of said tradition when I met my husband and had reason to put on something besides expandable sweatpants for the holiday. Not that I would trade in my happy marriage for cheese and chocolate, but… Seasons change and, much like on New Year’s Eve, I now find myself back in said sweatpants, celebrating with both the big and little man in my life.
Truth be told, I have moved the fondue tradition to the Oscars; perhaps I’ll make a heart-shaped meatloaf like my Mom routinely made this year. I highly recommend you host a fondue party, however. It’s the perfect way to celebrate those you love this month, be it your girlfriends, husband, children, or just yourself! Have each guest bring their favorite accompaniment for each fondue and get dipping.
I was listening to NPR the other day, and a piece came on about a new app called “Brighten.” You can send virtual compliments to loved ones with it. The creator was inspired by a “Compliment Box” that he saw in use at a friend’s house. Family members would anonymously leave kind notes to each […]
Ah, winter. It’s my favorite season to curl up with a good book or 5, make a pot of coffee in the middle of the afternoon, and relax. By myself. Of course, sometimes the 3 kids have something to say about that. So when “by myself” is not an option, we enjoy grabbing a stack […]
I was browsing around some of the other City Blogs when I stumbled across a post about thank you notes. The writer was describing her horrifying discovery of finding the notes she had written when her twins were born 9 years ago. They were still neatly sealed and ready for mail, hidden away in a […]
At our house, we are all about simple. I love meaningful traditions, but a scrap-booker or family photo shoot gal I am not. The last time we had family pictures taken with something other than an iPhone, my now-kindergartener wasn’t even talking. We do, however, have a few intentional ways in which we mark the […]
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! Until…it isn’t. Until our kids are asking for ALL. THE. THINGS. And we are looking at our budget asking how to make things “magical” without breaking the bank. And we start to wonder, is this what the Christmas season is supposed to be like? Or have we […]
