As a Mom of 2 boys who loves to get creative and have fun, I have turned to their birthday parties for my creative outlet. I figure it’s a win-win, right? They get a super cute, fun party and I have a blast coming up with theme food, invitations, activities and more.
Parties are supposed to be fun. So, let the planning be just as much fun. Brainstorm ideas with your kids and then do a little “pintresting” to get your creative juices flowing. You’ll probably end up with more ideas than you can or should do.
From our multitude birthday parties (of which I could probably write a blog post on each) here are a few of our favorites. Along with some invaluable tips for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary!
BOY PARTY THEMES:
- Firetrucks
- Airplanes
- Angry Birds
- Under the Sea
- Superhero
5 FUN PARTY TIPS:
1. Use an outside venue. Outside venues tend to be less expensive and keep a bunch of kids out of the house—so less clean up!
2. Turn ordinary food into fun themed food just with the name. Popcorn can easily become Piggy Popcorn for an Angry Birds party
3. Themed party décor makes everyone smile. I use old baby formula cans covered in themed wrapping paper or my own print outs to hold cutlery as table décor. Create paper cones with wrapping paper which always make the theme stand out more, and the kiddos enjoy the snacks even more!
4. Make favors part of the party. Superhero capes can be given out as favors at the beginning of a party instead of at the end help enhance the theme and all kids to become part of the fun.
5. Make sure your cake exudes your theme. Cake decoration doesn’t have to be from an expensive bakery. I always make my own cakes and use the kid’s small figurines or toys as cake decoration.
The idea is to have fun, and for me complicated is not fun. When an idea hits you or your kids, and you make it happen—the smiles and excitement are so worth it!!!
