Simple Homemade Gifts

Are you looking for ways to watch your budget this holiday season? Or maybe you want to give your loved ones gifts that are a bit more personal. Perhaps you are looking for unique gifts for grandparents. Don’t think that homemade gifts are only possible for the queens of Pinterest. You do not have to buy any power tools or collect pallets. Also, you don’t have to feel like you are wasting your time creating things no one will actually want.  Here are some fairly simple homemade gift ideas that the recipients will truly love!

IF YOU SEW

Pillowcase Dresses

If you have a little girl in your life, these are both adorable and SO easy to make! When my girls were younger, I made these a bunch. They only take a couple of yards of fabric and some ribbon, and can even be made out of upcycled men’s shirts. Too cute!

Crayon Roll and/or Tote

Someone gave my oldest daughter one of these and we loved it so much that I started making them as gifts. You can make the simple crayon roll, or you can up the ante and try this cute tote. They are both very simple, just sewing straight lines. And they are adorable AND really practical! Ours went with us to church, restaurants, and road trips for years.

EASY DIY SPA IDEAS

Sugar Scrub

My oldest made this for me last year and I loved it! It’s easy to make (we had all the ingredients on hand) and a refreshing treat at bath/shower time. You can customize it with different essential oils and colors. Put it in a cute mason jar (because we all love a mason jar, right?) with a ribbon and it makes a wonderful gift!

Bath Bombs

After the success of the sugar scrub, my girls and I have decided to try these homemade bath bombs this year. Again, they use really simple ingredients and can be customized with colors and scents. If your recipient has sensitive skin, here’s an alternate recipe that doesn’t use citric acid.

GIFTS KIDS CAN MAKE

Personalized Tea Towels

We made the grandparents tea towels using this method a few years ago and they are still in use! I love that the kids don’t have to draw ON the fabric for these (which is much trickier than it would seem) but that they can create on paper and you transfer their artwork to the towel. So cute and useful!

Tic Tac Toe Set

My oldest daughter is hoping to make this for her little brother this year. I love that the bag doubles as the Tic Tac Toe board and that it can easily be thrown in a purse or car for games on the go! This tutorial uses rocks for the Xs and Os, but you could easily use poker chips or wooden tokens as well.
