When Mommy Pees Her Pants: Journey to Beat Incontinence

We are thrilled to partner with PeriCoach on this 8-week challenge. Although this is a sponsored post, all opinions are 100% my own!

I knew having 2 boys under the age of 3 would mean pee everywhere. From changing diapers to potty training, there is so much pee to clean-up. But what I didn’t expect after 2 pregnancies was how often mommy would pee her pants too.

Yep – I pee my pants. A sneeze = pee. A light jog = pee. Jumping jacks = pee. Can you relate?

Even with my normal workout routine that included yoga and pelvic floor exercises (Kegels), I still found myself leaking. Let’s be honest, I thought I was alone because this is NOT something they tell you about when you get pregnant. Just when I thought it was MY new normal and added panty liners to my Costco list, I was invited to take part in PeriCoach’s 8 week challenge to help with my leaking.

Urinary Incontinence

What I learned from PeriCoach is the “leaking” is actually called urinary incontinence and is caused by weak or damaged pelvic floor muscles. This affects one in three women over the age of 18 in the US and although it is common that doesn’t mean it is normal. Don’t be surprised if you haven’t heard your friends talking about it – more than 50% of women don’t report it. It also doesn’t discriminate based on age or fitness level. So I’m about to tackle the PeriCoach 8 week challenge to strength my pelvic floor in hopes of reducing how often mommy pees her pants.

What is PeriCoach?

The PeriCoach® System is an easy-to-use home device and app designed to guide women performing pelvic floor exercises. PeriCoach provides feedback via smartphone app to help me manage and monitor a pelvic floor exercise program.

How does it work exactly? According to PeriCoach, a device containing three biosensors is inserted into the vagina. When the PeriCoach user performs her pelvic floor exercises, the biosensors detect the strength and duration of each contraction and instantly send these data to a downloadable smartphone app over a Bluetooth wireless connection. The smartphone app provides an easy-to-understand visual depiction of how the user is exercising in real time, to aide proper performance.  The app also sends daily reminders to the user for accountability and motivation.

PeriCoach 8 Week Challenge Details

With 99% of women knowing what Kegels are, action of doing them is not high. I’ll be the first to admit, I never know if I’m doing them correctly. That is why I’m excited to join this challenge! Here are the details on the challenge:

  • Exercise daily with PeriCoach (minimum of 5 days a week for 8 weeks)
  • Easily record in the bladder diary water intake, bladder behavior and pad use (using a super easy app on my phone!)
  • Complete 3 easy surveys each month that take less than 10 minutes (which the app will remind me about)
