Intown Atlanta Swim and Tennis Neighborhoods

Moving to Atlanta and think you’ve got to be in the suburbs to enjoy a swim & tennis neighborhood? You’re SO wrong.

Intown Atlanta Swim and Tennis NeighborhoodsHere’s a list of my personal favorite neighborhoods with pools and tennis courts (that don’t cost a fortune to join) all located ITP (that’s inside the 285 perimeter for you newcomers).

Buckhead

Yes, Buckhead. And I’m not talking about the Cherokee Town Club, either. There are a number of awesome public, semi-private, and private low-cost pools in Buckhead neighborhoods.

Brookwood Hills Community Club

Yes, get your name on the waitlist while you’re still pregnant. Buy a house here and you’re in automatically, but those outside the neighborhood can join for an initiation fee when your name comes off the waitlist. Amazing swim team and also tennis courts, park and basketball court and lots of parties–for members only.

Until you get in off the waitlist, you can join Garden Hills Pool. It’s a public city pool by day, and members-only pool by night. Memberships go on sale in the spring and sell out quick so check their website for details and get on their email list.

Chastain Park Pool is also in the public/private cooperative.

Their swim team is always on top at the All-City Meet each year. They dominate. Nice facility with a new cover to make swimming year-round option.

Roxboro Valley Pool

This is a low-key private community pool in that neighborhood back behind Lenox Square.

Hanover West

This is a cute neighborhood swim tennis club tucked over on the west side of Buckhead. No frills, good friends.

Westside families also enjoy the outdoor pool and tennis facilities at the Sanders YMCA on Moore’s Mill Rd.

Cross Creek

Did you know you can buy a membership to Cross Creek without living there? Love that!

And come to think of it, you don’t have to join Capital City to get your swim on in Brookhaven. The Brittany neighborhood is a gem– a lake, a pool (with swim team), tennis courts, playground–within walking distance of affordable homes. DREAM LIFE.

There are others in the area like Hampton Hall, and True Vinings boasts the Cochise Club–swim, tennis, playground, clubhouse, parties and a view of the Chattahoochee.

Dekalb also has some really nice low-key private neighborhood swim/tennis clubs:

  1. Venetian
  2. Lindmoor Woods
  3. Briarcliff Woods Beach Club

The special appeal of these neighborhoods is the relative value of the homes there. The neighborhoods tend to be more affordable and are great for families with young kids. The elementary schools get great ratings, and there’s also a cluster of cool private schools in the area like Cliff Valley, Intown Community School, and Arbor Montessori to name a few.

And for those living in town to our south–the city has not forgotten you. There are a number of public parks with swimming pools that are gaining more neighborhood support. The Piedmont Park Aquatic Center blows the Driving Club’s pool out of the water.

There’s also Candler Park Pool and Grant Park Pool. Both neighborhoods are rallying around these facilities and I’m watching for a cooperative to develop there similar to Chastain and Garden Hills.
