I’ll start out by saying that I do not know what I would do without my children. Starting a family has truly changed my life in the best way possible. Before I had kids, everyone would always tell me that “they grow up so fast,” and I didn’t believe it until I had some little ones of my own. Watching them grow has been the most gratifying experience of my life.

Having said that, pregnancy and raising children is no walk in the park. First comes 9 months of hormonal unrest. Then once the baby is born, you’re on a new schedule with not enough sleep. And motherhood is no 9-5 job—you don’t just get to kick off your shoes after a long day. Of course, all this can take a toll on your appearance. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, and the hectic lifestyle of a mom can dramatically change your body.

Sometimes, regardless of good diet and exercise, it is impossible to restore your pre-baby body on your own, which can be frustrating and disheartening. However, several procedures are available that can help you get back your body and restore your confidence—you deserve it!

Breast Procedures

Breastfeeding can leave moms with sagging or uneven breasts. Unfortunately, there is little that you can do to fix this without surgery. Sometimes a breast augmentation alone can fix these issues, but, more often than not, a combination of a breast augmentation and a breast lift can better address your concerns.

  • Breast augmentation is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures nationwide. For example, over 300,000 women underwent the procedure just this past year. According to Dr. Asaf Yalif, breast augmentation at his Alpharetta practice is a high-demand procedure for women post-breastfeeding. He recommends that women wait until they are done having children to undergo any plastic surgery.
  • A breast lift can tighten the breast tissue and reduce sagging skin, providing a more youthful shape and perky position.

Body Procedures

Developing loose skin and excess fat pockets is extremely common when you’ve had children. There are a couple options for women who are unhappy with their midsections after pregnancy:

  • A tummy tuck can tighten separated abdominal muscles, which is common after pregnancy. This condition is called diastasis recti. The procedure can also correct excess skin on the abdomen and help women achieve a smooth midsection.
  • Liposuction can remove excess fat from the neck, abdomen, hips, back, thighs, and arms. It can be an effective solution for women who are close to their goal weight but have a few trouble spots that are resistant to diet and exercise.

Mommy Makeover

A mommy makeover is a combination of body and breast procedures performed at the same time during one surgery. Patients can choose 2 or more of the procedures above for full-body rejuvenation. This means just one time under anesthesia and one recovery period. Additionally, one surgery will be way easier to schedule for busy moms. However, it is important to note that combined procedures can be more complicated than one procedure alone, so you must choose a board-certified plastic surgeon who has years of experience.

I understand that plastic surgery is not for everyone, but if you are unhappy with the way you look, then you should consider it. Do what makes you happy. If cosmetic surgery will help you feel more confident, then go for it! Just remember to do your research and weigh all your options before scheduling a surgery date.

  1. I opened your email this morning for encouragement, and this was your top story. Is this real? Instead of encouraging all of the awesome mommas out there to embrace who they are, you are encouraging us to go under the knife if we are not perfect? This is very sad, not only for the mommas out there, but also for our daughters, that society (even a mom blog!) encourages women to get plastic surgery for their mom bodies. There is nothing wrong with wanting to look good, but shouldn’t we be teaching our families about being healthy and focusing on what is inside? If a woman chooses to have plastic surgery, to each his own. However, having this as your top story on a Mom blog email is very disappointing. I know society puts these pressures on us, but shouldn’t we be trying to support each other as moms? Just a thought.
