Weekend Trip to Nashville

There are plenty of places to travel to from Atlanta for a fun weekend away! My husband won a free hotel stay just outside of Nashville, so we decided we’d take the four-year-old and enjoy a quick weekend trip!

Everyone knows Nashville centers around music, specifically Country Music. To be completely transparent, my husband and I are not Country Music Fans. My Puerto Rican husband’s musical taste runs from Michael Jackson to Marc Anthony. I love Broadway show tunes and 90’s Pop. We are not necessarily the targeted audience for many of the attractions in Nashville but, are open to new things and fun experiences.

We left Marietta mid-morning on Friday and took our time getting there. Instead of driving into the city, we decided to hang out at the hotel. The hotel had an indoor pool. It was a great way to burn off some energy from being in the car for 4 1/2 hours.

Saturday morning we woke up and decided to enjoy a local delicacy, Waffle House. Our darling child only eats about 7 things. Waffles and bacon are two of them. After breakfast, we headed to Nashville. We spent the morning at The Parthenon.

The Parthenon in Nashville is a reproduction of the one in Greece. It was built in 1897 Tennessee Centennial Exposition. I have to admit that although my husband and I enjoyed looking at the museum exhibits, my son was not so impressed. We tried to come up with creative ways to involve him, but he saw right through that and couldn’t wait to get out. He nagged and whined and wore me down so that *I* couldn’t wait to get out either.

Luckily, it was a beautiful day and we were able to walk outside and enjoy Centennial Park where The Parthenon is located. There was a playground for Kaden to run around. It was perfect and housed a real steam engine and a jet. We spent a couple of hours there (which included our relatively quick tour of the museum inside).

We left and went to the Country Music Hall of Fame. I was skeptical about spending the time and money in the Hall of Fame, especially considering we are not Country Music fans. I was pleasantly surprised at how interesting the exhibits were. My four-year-old loved the interactive activities they offer! For some reason, my husband spent a lot of time at the Shania Twain exhibit. I especially loved seeing Elvis’s gold Cadillac.

My favorite memory of the weekend: Hearing my son sing out loud to Queen’s “We Will Rock You” while wearing headphones and not realizing that everyone could hear him!)

After several hours at the museum, we walked down the main street of Nashville (Broadway).  We saw all the bars and restaurants and neon. We looked at the river and Nissan stadium. Then, we had dinner and headed back to the hotel. We left Nashville the next morning to head back to Atlanta.

All in all a really full and fun weekend for us all and a place that we would absolutely recommend!
