Positive Thoughts for a Great School Year

Now that it’s August, it’s back to school time. For some, it’s a period of mixed emotions. Some students are excited to enter a new grade level or school students other kids may have some anxiety to go to a new school. Some parents may be happy their children are not at home most of the day for the sake of their grocery bill. Other parents may be a little tearful to drop their kids off at college.

As a parent to young children ages 2 and 4, I have not officially entered the school system. However, I will start this new chapter in life as my 4-year-old son will enter pre-kindergarten this month. We will need to get used to an earlier morning routine and school uniforms. My son is excited, and I’m excited as well. For the most part, I enjoyed school and I love to learn. My husband and I treat education seriously, and we’ve already started various teachings to both of our children.

Even though my son is young, I still want to wish him well as he starts school. I’m a strong believer of positive thoughts and affirmations, so I gathered some quotes and affirmations for students and parents. Affirmations are beneficial for people of all ages as they help build self-esteem and help develop a positive mindset. By definition, an affirmation is an action or process of affirming something or being affirmed. I like to think of affirmations as a statement to add or absorb into my life hey can be said anywhere. You can recite affirmations at the breakfast table or during the car ride to school. Print out a positive quote and stick on your child’s lunchbox or backpack or even print a quote for your purse or wallet.

Students

· “The difference between try and triumph is a little umph” –Marvin Phillips
· “You’re off to great places! Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” –Dr. Seuss
· “I am ready to work hard.”
· “I am excited to learn something new.”
· “I believe in myself.”

Parents

· “Be so good they can’t ignore you.” –Steve Martin
· “Children want the same things we want. To laugh, to be challenged, to be entertained, and delighted” –Dr. Seuss
· “Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” –Bob Talber
· “I’m the calm in the chaos.”
· “I will do what I can. No one expects me to do it all.”

Here’s to a great 2018 school year! Sending lots of positive thoughts and encouragement to you and your little ones!

  1. I love this. Pre-K is going to be so much fun for your little guy! When my son was in pre-k I put little love notes in his snack each day. Since he couldn’t read, his teachers would read the note to him. He looked forward to the note each day and it really helped me stay present as I was preparing for him to be at school. My son will be starting Kindergarten this year and I plan to leave him lunch box notes this year, too.

I hope your son has a great first year of school!

    • Thank you Renae! So far, the first week is going well. I hope your son has a great year in Kindergarten!

  2. I love this and I know it really works – I used to put little notes like this into my son’s lunch box when he was going through a rough time with some kids at school. He said it made him really happy to read them and gave him a bit more confidence. I particularly love the quote by Marvin Phillips – so true!
